Contrary to what many designers will try and tell you, creating a powerful and effective brand is not as easy as just whacking together some words and images and making the whole thing look pretty.

Branding is is a marketing shaman's domain - part intuitive, part research, all combined towards achieving a specific result.

Branding is not just developing a logo- although that can be part of it.

Branding involves a deep understanding of you, your business and where you are wanting to take it. It involves knowing your clients, in some capacity, and creating a compelling story around your business that will make it that much easier for you to get and keep new clients and customers.

Branding is naming your business, developing a tagline [when appropriate], developing a logo or wordmark [a logo developed around your business name instead of images], and locating or creating associated imagery to tell the story of your business.

A good brand is neither simple nor complex - it is neither attractive nor repulsive.

A good brand is, above all else, effective.
